Who this is for
I offer trauma-informed therapy for people affected by psychological trauma — whether from a single event, a critical incident at work, the impact of childhood abuse or trauma, or difficult experiences over a long period. I have extensive experience working with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), including with veterans and emergency first responders (see first responders and veterans).
Common effects include hypervigilance, intrusive memories, nightmares, avoidance, irritability and emotional distress, as well as the low mood and strain on relationships that can follow.
How I work
My approach prioritises safety and stability first. We build skills for emotional regulation before any gradual processing of what happened, so the work goes at a pace you can manage. I use evidence-based psychological therapies to help reduce trauma-related symptoms while strengthening stability and self-understanding.
You stay in control of the pace. You don't need to share every detail before you are ready.
Complex and layered histories
If you are living with several things at once, or a long history that has been hard to put into words, you are very welcome here. We take the time to understand the whole picture together.
Common questions
Do I have to talk about everything that happened?
No. Trauma-informed therapy goes at a pace you can manage, with safety and stability first. You decide what you share and when.
What if I'm not sure what happened 'counts' as trauma?
You don't need to decide that before you come. If something continues to affect you, it is worth talking about.
Is trauma therapy covered by Medicare?
With a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP, Medicare rebates apply to eligible sessions. Veterans may be eligible for DVA funding, and work-related trauma may be covered under a WorkCover claim.
