Dr Carol Snellgrove · Clinical Psychologist in Rose Park, Adelaide

Some things are just a little easier to carry with someone who's sat with this before.

CS Clinical PsychServices is the gentle, steady practice of Dr Carol Snellgrove, a clinical psychologist who has spent over 25 years walking alongside people — from late adolescence through older adulthood — through anxiety, low mood, grief, life transitions, and the ordinary weight of being a person. You'll be met here as you are, with care shaped around you rather than a single method applied to everyone.

Most new clients are seen within one to two weeks — no lengthy wait list.

More about Dr Snellgrove
What sets this practice apart

Twenty-five years in this work has taught me one thing above all: no two people need the same kind of help.

Experience across the whole system, not just the therapy room. Over 25 years I've worked across hospitals, government agencies, emergency services, and private practice. That breadth means I've likely sat with something close to what you're going through before — and I bring that understanding warmly into the room with you.

A flexible approach, built gently around you. I don't work from a single script. Depending on what you need, I draw on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy, trauma-informed care, systems theory, clinical hypnosis, and the Gottman Method for couples — adapting as we go, rather than fitting you into a single method.

Emergency first responders are very welcome here. If you work in police, ambulance, fire or another emergency service, you carry things most people never have to see. Having worked alongside emergency services myself, I understand something of what the job asks of you — and you won't need to explain or soften it for my sake. This is a steady, private place to set some of it down.

Complex presentations are warmly welcome. Life rarely arrives in tidy categories. If you're living with several things at once, or a long and layered history that's been hard to put into words, please don't feel you need to simplify it before you come in. We'll take the time to understand the whole picture together, gently and at your pace.

A warm, steady presence. There's no rush and no judgement in this room. Whatever stage of life you're in — including the particular challenges of ageing, caregiving, or later-life transitions — you'll be met with patience, kindness, and a genuinely understanding ear.

Room for laughter, too. Therapy doesn't have to be heavy all the way through. I bring genuine warmth and a sense of humour into sessions — not to sidestep what's difficult, but because joy and lightness are part of being human, even in hard chapters.

Above all, I bring over 25 years of care and clinical judgement to every session — not a fixed program, but a considered, compassionate read of what will actually help you.

Good to know

Let's answer your questions.

More on referrals, Medicare and fees is on the getting started page.

Do I need a referral?

Not at all — no referral is required to book. If you'd like a Medicare rebate, ask your usual GP for a mental health care plan appointment. Your GP prepares a Mental Health Treatment Plan and referral, which gives you rebates for up to ten individual sessions in a calendar year. OneBodyMind’s guide to Medicare and referrals explains how the plan, the first six sessions and the review work.

Do you see DVA, WorkCover, CTP or NDIS clients?

Yes. Veterans and current serving members under DVA, WorkCover claimants, people with a CTP claim after a motor vehicle accident, and NDIS participants who are self-managed or plan-managed (not NDIA-managed) are all welcome. I'm also happy to prepare reports where these arrangements require them — just mention this when you get in touch.

Do you see emergency first responders?

Yes, and very gladly. Police, paramedics, firefighters and other emergency service workers are all warmly welcome, whether you're currently serving or have stepped away from the role. We can go at whatever pace feels right for you, and there's no need to have the words ready before you come in.

My situation feels complicated — can you still see me?

Yes, absolutely. I'm very happy to see people with complex presentations — whether that's several concerns at once, a long or layered history, or something that's been hard to put a name to. You don't need to have it all worked out beforehand; we'll take our time and make sense of it together.

Do you offer hypnosis?

Yes. Clinical hypnosis is one of the approaches I can draw on, for people who are curious about it and where it suits what we're working on. It's gentle and unhurried, and only ever something we do together with your agreement.

Do you see people after a motor vehicle accident, or for medico-legal matters?

Yes to both. If you've been in a motor vehicle accident, you're very welcome here, and we can work gently with whatever it has left you carrying. I also provide medico-legal assessments and reports, including for WorkCover matters. If your appointment or report is being arranged or paid for by someone else — such as a lawyer, insurer or case manager — please let me know when you get in touch, and I'll explain how the process works.

What does a session cost?

My fee is $290 for a standard 50-minute session, before the Medicare rebate for clinical psychology. With a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP, the rebate is claimed for you at reception on the day and paid straight back to your account, so there's nothing to submit yourself. Reception can confirm the current rebate when you book. Different arrangements apply to DVA, WorkCover, CTP, NDIS and medico-legal work.

Is telehealth available?

Yes. Sessions run in person or by secure video call, whichever feels most comfortable, and you're welcome to switch between the two. Telehealth attracts the same Medicare rebate as an in-person session — more about telehealth.

How long does therapy take?

It depends on what you're working on and what you'd like from therapy. Some people come for a handful of sessions; others prefer longer-term support. We'll talk about this early on and review how things are going regularly — and if something isn't helping, we change course together.

What if I'm not sure therapy is "for me"?

That's completely alright, truly. Send an enquiry outlining what's on your mind, and I'll reply personally — there's no obligation to book anything, and no pressure either way.

How do I book, and how quickly will I hear back?

You can book directly through my online diary, or send an enquiry and I'll reply personally — usually within one to two business days. Most new clients are able to get an appointment within one to two weeks, with no lengthy wait list.
